On Thursday, April 3, 2025, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as another call to the head of the Supreme Political Council of Sanaa, Mahdi Al-Mashat.

Efforts and efforts
The successive contacts with Zashkian demonstrate political efforts and efforts to defuse tensions in the region, as well as efforts to push the Yemeni parties towards a political solution.

Observers believe that the two contacts did not deviate from efforts to bring closer points of view between Iran and the United States of America and create a state of rapprochement between Sanaa and Riyadh that would lead to the launch of the next round of negotiations between the two sides in the Yemeni conflict.

Mutual mediations
Analysts believe that Riyadh plays the role of mediator between Washington and Tehran, while Tehran plays the role of mediator between Riyadh and Sanaa.

tension
The contacts with Zashkian took place at a time when US-Iran relations had reached an advanced stage of tension, with US President Trump’s threats to attack Iran and the transfer of advanced US weapons, in addition to US strikes targeting Houthi-controlled Yemeni provinces, and the Houthis’ announcement of strikes on US military ships in the Red Sea, indicating that both contacts are linked to the ongoing escalation in the region.

Formal routine
Others believe that although the two contacts addressed the situation in the region, they cannot be considered as a serious indication of a trend of rapprochement between Tehran, Washington, Sanaa and Riyadh, because the coincidence of the two contacts with the days of Eid al-Fitr is considered an official routine carried out by presidents on such occasions.
